Climate Action, Climate Justice, and Climate Awareness

Rapidly phase out the use of fossil fuels from all municipal buildings by 2035, increase urban agriculture food systems, and address Mean Jean’s Mean Streets to make them more walkable, bikeable, and more efficiently utilized by public transportation. 

Establish an office of Climate/Environmental Justice and Resiliency to be housed in the City Planning Department.

Develop a Climate Justice Intervention Plan for CCD2 including a report on wind and solar installation as well as battery storage potential. 

Develop a comprehensive and achievable climate intervention plan to address and dismantle environmental racism by shutting down OPPD’s North Omaha Power Plant and replacing it with true, renewable energy sources. 

Coordinate with OPPD and the City Planning Department to develop and establish an affordable public option for rooftop solar utilizing the federal Inflation Reduction Act’s direct pay provision and “Solar for All” grant program. 

Coordinate with Regional Metropolitan Transit Authority to create a bus line connecting Omaha and Lincoln - at least three buses a day from/to both cities. 

100% Electric Bus fleet by 2035, work with Omaha Public Schools for a 100% Electric School Bus fleet by 2040.

Introduce an ordinance banning the placement of additional Data Centers within the city limits of Omaha and ensure planned and existing data centers do not increase power bills for poor and working class Omahans. 

Prohibit the construction and operation of new fossil fuel infrastructure, and prohibit the construction and operation of carbon dioxide pipelines within city limits.

Establish a risk bond initiative for existing fossil fuel infrastructure to assist with costs of climate resiliency programs.
